THE UK SUSPASSES THE US IN VISITORS TO THE.CAT

Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee.

These last days this blog of THE.CAT is receiving most of the visits from the UK. This is new as it was the US the country which was responsible for most of the visits. As I try to write in British English and I write more about the UK than the US I feel happy that at last THE.CAT is starting to get visits from the UK.

Eurovision and the eurocrisis may have been the reason for most visits. So will this  increase of UK visitors be something short or will it end even defining the content of THE.CAT?

HOW CAN SPAIN HAVE SOME OF THE BEST PLAYERS OF THE WORLD AND TO BE ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE AT THE SAME TIME?

I do not know what to think. Is it not strange that some of the best football players of the world play in Spain while Spain is on the brink of collapse?

This is very strange that a country can afford such players while it is in such a bad situation. Who knows, maybe in the near future we see as some players begin to go abroad. For people abroad it must be very strange that we have problems paying our debts while at the same time we have Ronaldo and Messi with us. But as far as I know Messi is not interested in money. It is weird but even for somebody who is not a big fan of football it is nice that at least Messi stays here. I wonder how many milliseconds would Ronaldo remain in Madrid if his huge wages did not reach to his bank account each month.

By the way, which is the connection between the Spanish banks and the world of Spanish football?

THE COUSIN OF RIESGO AND THE COUSIN VERA

People in Spain are very used to talk about cousins. For centuries, when spring comes they always say that cousin Vera comes.

But, of late, they also talk in the news a lot about another cosin. In this case is the cousin of Riesgo. They did not mention his or her name but English newspapers use to call him or her just Yield.

While everybody loves cousin Vera, the cousin of Riesgo is hated very much and much is said about him. Or her.

….

This post is a kind of tale. In castilian the spring is calle PRIMAVERA and PRIMA means a FEMALE COUSIN. On the other hand the yield of the Spanish bond in comparison with  the German bond is LA PRIMA DE RIESGO … Riesgo stands for risk.

TÍTOLS DE DEUTE VS EMISSIÓ DEL TRESOR

Ja m’he perdut. Em semblava que títols de deute, emissions del tresor era més o menys el mateix. Però pel que es veu no.

Ara sembla que Bankia no se salvarà amb títols de deute sinó amb emissions del tresor fetes en subhastes tradicionals?

De què estem parlant?

No entenc res!

This is big news. The UK will send Julian Assange to Sweden. This may the firt step before the US gets him from Sweden maybe. Are we returning then to the times where Wikileaks was at the top of the news too? What will the supporters of Julian Assange do?

DOES CATALONIA WANT SPAIN TO BE INTERVENED?

This morning I was watching a Catalan tv channel and at some point I have the feeling as if some of the people talking would prefer in some way that Spain is intervened so that we are ruled from Brussels instead of being rules from Madrid.

As there is a big dislike in Catalonia of being ruled from Madrid there is the possibility that some say the intervention of Spain as a good thing: The Spanish politicians in Madrid are so bad that it is better to be ruled from Brussels.

But I think this is a mistake. Governments in Madrid may do things that we like or not in Catalonia but at least they know what we want.

In Madrid there are people that know us. Politicians in Madrid dislike Catalonia to feel as a nation but at least they know us much better than people from Brussels. People in Madrid they know that we in Catalonia speak Catalan. They may like that more or less but they know. What do people know in Brussels know about Catalonia.

Some people in Madrid would be extremely happy with a Spain without autonomous communities but they know that, unfortunately for them, such a Spain would mean a lot of terrible trouble. They know that in Catalonia and Euskadi and other places we would never accept that. On the other hand people from Brussels could have no problem in dismantling the autonomous communities if this means less spend.

In summary what I mean is that we in Spain know each other. We may dislike each other but we know that and we act accordingly.

The football is a good example. A government in Madrid knows perfectly well that football is essential in Spain. A government from Brussels could ask for taxes to clubs and it would feel it is being fair by just asking the same to all the clubs.

What I mean is that it is better to be ruled from a place that you know and they know you than from a faceless Europe.

A Madrid government will treat Catalonia in an unfair way so that we continue paying a lot and receiving not much but at least you know they know you are one of the most prosperous part of the state. Meanwhile, people from Brussels will treat us just as people from southern Europe who just spend too much.

Mariano Rajoy is from Galizia. So, whatever he feels more Spanish than Galizian or whatever it is obvious he knows that Spain is a place where we speak different languages.

The best to buy a Europe with a future should be to understand the Europeans around you. And if we do not understand ourselves with the rest of the people from the peninsula how should we understand us with the whole Europe?

People from Madrid will treat Catalonians in a good or bad way but you can be sure they consider us as this part of Spain that is very prosperous but that unfortunately for Madrid is always asking for more. On the other hand people from Brussels  will treat Catalonia just as one part more of the disastrous zone of Southern Europe.

Besides, there was a poll to choose Mariano Rajoy. If we are ruled from Brussels then we will be ruled by some surreal set of people that we did not choose!

Anyway, I am afraid that now there are people in Spain and Catalonia that would be happy if Spain is intervened. Some people in Catalonia could be happy as this would mean a disaster to blame Spain. And maybe some people in Spain may also like an intervention as then they could say that the Spain of the autonomous communities was the responsible of the disaster.

In any case, I am like Mariano Rajoy. I like to ask help only when I cannot more. I maybe right or wrong in doing so but in this sense I am like Mariano Rajoy: I like to rely on myself.

As I have said in this blog I prefer to be hungry and free than rich and live in a cage.

FOR GOOD OR FOR BAD, THE.CAT IS LIKE MARIANO RAJOY: HE LIKES NOT TO ASK FOR HELP FROM EUROPE.

DIMECRES NEGRE

Me’n vaig a dormir.

ECB REJECTS PLAN FOR BANKIA AND REJECTS TOO TO BUY SPANISH BONDS

Europe - Satellite image - PlanetObserver

Somebody in Europe or the ECB must speak load and clear and say WHY THE ECB IS LEAVING SPAIN TO ITS OWN DEVICES?

Why is the ECB not helping anymore Spain?

Has Europe decided to let Spain fall too like it happened with Ireland, Portugal and Greece?

These hours are very important for me because they are the right time to see which friends we have in Europe. What I see these hours, these days, is going to have a lasting impact in the way I would see other countries of Europe in the following decades.

For now, I only see the Financial Times giving advice! You can agree with it or not but at least I like that somebody says something! The British media tells Mariano Rajoy not to resist if it wants to end like Ireland.

But I would like to listen to Hollande, to Merkel.

It is strnage. Spain is full of torists from around Europe but now that we are in a difficult time nobody says anything.

Could Russia help us? Anybody there in Moscow?

Can China help us? Anybody there in Beijing?

Can Qatar help us? Anybody there in Doha?

Can the UK help us in some way? Anybody in London?

Hello, Mr Obama? Are you there?

Señor Rajoy, where are they?

THE FINANCIAL TIMES DISAGREES WITH MARIANO RAJOY

Mariano Rajoy

HOW IS MARIANO RAJOY TO SAVE BANKIA? WHERE IS THE MONEY?

Today there is an interesting article in hte Financial Times. In this article it is said that the worse than Mariano Rajoy can do is to say that no bank will fail.

I do not like the Financial Times much but some of the things said on the article seem to me sound.

I do not know much about banks but I imagine that one thing that could be done would be to just pay up to 100000 euros to the people who had money in Bankia and close the bank. In this way most people could be quiet as they will keep some money and the people who would not get back all the money would not die of hunger because they would receive at least 100000 euros. It seems to me quite reasonable.

Why not to do the things in a simple way so that people can understand what is going on? This of giving debt to Bankia and then Bankia showing this debt to the ECB so that it gets money seems like to return to those times of economic enginnering that brought the subprimes and that rubbish? Why not try to simplify the things?

The important thing are the people not the banks so let the banks fall and just give the money you can to the people that had an account.

We have always said that in Spanish banks we have the savings guaranteed up to 100000 euros. So why should the government save the banks? Just give back the money is guaranteed.

The FT says that we could end like Ireland if Rajoy insists in saving the banks. I hope that Europe gives us at least advice!

In any case, I support Mariano Rajoy if he believes that we do not need help from Europe. But I hope he does something so that we do not need that help!

DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN SPAIN WAS ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE?

This is post written on May 30th 2012. It is not thought for general reading although anyone can read it. It is thought to be read in some months or years by the one who wrote it.

So, this is for myself but in a future time. So let me explain how I felat how I was feeling as I was writing this!:

Well, it was quite late at night and I could not sleep. Some days ago we knew that a bank called BANKIA would nead about 19000 millions of euros. At the same time the yield of the Spanish bonds was close to 7 per cent. The editorial of Le Monde was telling Mariano Rajoy to ask for help to Europe and not be so proud and so quixotesc. Meanwhile the Catalan politicians were worried, like always, in internal problems, in this case a fiscal pact, with Spain. The Financial Times as usual was not bringing good news to Spain and said that the ECB could not help Bankia in the way Spanish government had mentioned. So the news were terrible. You were quite anxious. it was the first time in your life in decades that Spain was in such a bad situation. And in this case it was Spain and the euro so it was not just Spain. To go to sleep in such a situation was crazy. Few times had you been so nervous. But you were tired so you ended this post and you went to bed to try to sllep. The rest you should know now … In any case, rember that if the situation when you read this is much worse than when I read that if you are reading this it may mean you are not so bad as you may think! Good Night, and Good Luck,
