SHOULD I BOYCOTT TWINNINGS AND BARCLAYS IN SPAIN??

English: David Cameron's picture on the 10 Dow...

SHOULD DAVID CAMERON BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE EUROZONE IF THE UK CLOSES ITS BORDERS?

In Catalonia and Spain one can see branches of Barclays. Until now I had just feel ashamed when I was passing next to a Bankia branch but now I do not feel very comfortable either when I pass next to a Barclays branch after the Barclays scandal in the UK, the home of Barclays.

On the other hand I love the tea of TWINNINGS.

I cannot actively boycott BARCLAYS as I do not have an account at BARCLAYS. But I can boycott TWINNINGS as I use to by teas of this wonderful brand.

I even could support the Elgin marbles returning to Greece.

As you may have realised all the things I say are related to the UK and all mean  to act in an unfriendly way in someway..

Why should  I be unfriendly when I in general like the UK?

Well, I just read that the UK may close its borders to some eurozone citizens if the eurozone crisis goes worse.

Well, I understand that the UK government must care about what to do in a hypothetical break down of the eurozone but I think that it is very understandable too that if THE.CAT cannot go to, for example, London, I won’t be happy about the British coming to the places where they reject people going to there land.

If people from the south of Europe could not enter the UK it is childish to imagine that people from the south of Europe would welcome UK tourists in their beaches.

If the UK closes its borders to southern Europe then the south of Europe should close borders to the UK.

I say all this because I have the feeling that some British politicians seem not to realise that by talking about closing borders they are not protecting UK interests but just isolating the UK.

I have never supported in a serious way the return of the Elgin marbles to Greece but if I cannot go to London to see them it is obvious I prefer them to be in Greece.

I love Twinnings but if I cannot go to The Strand shop to buy if when I go to London then I prefer not to buy them.

If I cannot go to London then each day I see a Barclays branch I would feel quite weird that a UK bank can have a branch in my city but I cannot go the place of the branch.

If I cannot go to London I will write to Catalan tv channels and tv radios and will ask them to stop broadcasting British series or music.

Needless to say that if the UK closes its borders and I have to boycott British products I will be quite sad ans disappointed as I like British products in general but as I admire the British I like to do like them so that if the close whatever I will try to close whatever too. Quite a sad thing to do but it is not me who has started all this but David Cameron.

This is so the answer to David Cameron possible closing of borders. A total closing of borders to British tourists in southern Europe. If we cannot go to Britain not a single British citizen should be allowed to step into a souther eurozone beach.

IN ANY CASE IF GREEKS CANNOT GO TO LONDON THEN THE ELGIN MARBLES SHOULD IMMEDIATELY LEAVE LONDON BACK TO WHERE THEY WERE MADE: GREECE.

CAMERON FAVOURS SPANISH INTERESTS

Well, at last!

It is weeks that I write that the UK and Spain should act as partners! They should try to help each other!

So, today I have read very good news! In Los Cabos, Mexico, David Cameron has criticised Argentina for measures like the one which nationalized Spanish assets in Argentina! Bravo for David Cameron!

So thank you very much David Cameron to act for once as an ally and defend Spanish interests beyond European borders.

In any case I also want to mention that personally I find that Cristina from Argentina is a nice person but I am afraid she is quite wrong by not trying to be in good terms with Spain and the UK. I like very much Argentina and some of my best friends are from Argentina and they have never talked to me about the Malvinas or Falklands! We just have talked of our mutual admiration for London! Argentina should use the Falklands not as a wepon of confrontation but as an opportunity to be closer to the UK! Argentina should open its heart to people from The Falklands. Argentina should seduce them to want to become part of Argentina.

So, thanks David!

CAMERON: THE UK WON’T HELP SPAIN

The Prime Minister of the UK has clearly said that the UK won’t help Spain with underwriting Spanish bank deposits.

So, while France, Germany, Italy and the rest of eurozone will help Spain the UK won’t do.

Why I write about this?

Because I think it is very important to state clear how each state acts with respect to the other countries.

I think it is very important to know who helps you and who does not want to help you.

So,  imagine that in the future European countries have to vote which country should host some important technology equipment or whatever? If Spain has to vote, it is important to know the words of Cameron today. It is obvious that we should vote before for France, Italy or Germany than the UK.

Is this a way to say that we should be at odds with the British? Not necessarily!

I must accept that I understand the position of the UK. They are outside the eurozone.

But it is obvious that if the UK wants to take advantage of not being in the  eurozone  for not helping countries in need then it is obvious that Spain should always choose Germany and France as better option!

Should Spain buy, for example, a plane. There is a British plane and a French plane to choose. No doubt that Spain should choose France.

If the UK does not help Spain just because the UK is outside the eurozone then the eurozone countries should always choose eurozone countries as first choice to invest.

On the other hand I think that Spain should also review its use of the English language. Maybe it is time to choose American language. Unfortunately I am afraid I will continue using British English because not everything should be white or black … Some eccentric contradiction should be allowed …

UK AND ITALY ROW IS A SHAME

I just have read that there there is a row between the UK and Italy about a terrible event that has happened in Nigeria. It is quite possible that Italy is right and the UK has made a mistake o maybe Italy has made a mistake by attacking the action UK.

I have my personal view about what has happened but here I don’t want to talk about that. Here I just want to show my dismay about the row. I feel that terrorist must be quite happy reading about this row. It is true that I understand that any of the two countries is right to say what it wants but it is a pity that the disagreement is made in the public arena. The more the row continues the more powerful the terrorists  become.

The people behind the row should think if by saying the things they are saying they are improving something or just putting more chaos in this part of the world.

So shame on the one who did the things wrongly in Nigeria and shame on the one who instead of trying to solve the things in a diplomatic way just goes and attacks another friendly country. The enemy of the UK is not Italy and the enemy of Italy is not the UK. The enemy is the one who kidnapped their citizens!

“LONDON WILL ACCEPT DOLLARS AND EUROS DURING THE OLYMPIC GAMES”

DAVOS/SWITZERLAND, 29JAN10 - David Cameron, Le...

DAVID CAMERON

I just have had an idea that seems quite foolish but that would make me happy to go to visit London during the Olympic Games. Let me explain:

Some hours ago David Cameron has talked about the eurocrisis as a opportunity. Well: this is the opportunity I see:

Next year with the eurocrisis less people from the eurozone would come to London for the Olympic Games. So one idea I have is to welcome people from the eurozone in a friendly way: to let them pay with euros! During the dates of the Olympic Games London could make something that maybe never before has been done: use three currencies: the pound, the dollar and the euro!

This would be quite good for London because it will bring more tourists from Europe! One unique opportunity to pay in euros or dollars in London cannot be missed!

How this would work?

Well, shops and establishments which would like to accept euros and dollars would put adverts on their entrances!

Anyway, I am afraid that this won’t happen …

EUROPE COULD BE SAVED BY ENGLAND … IF ENGLAND WANTED …

Knowledge of English in the EU, Croatia, Maced...

Image via Wikipedia

There is a very easy way to solve the eurocrisis. The only problem is that the part that could save the euro prefers not to. One solution to the eurocrisis would be for the UK to join the eurozone or at least say they want to. Once that said I am sure that international markets would have more trust in the euro because London, the financial city of Europe, would be part of the euro.

Needless to say the continent would have to offer something to the UK so that the people in Britain could be happy. And I cannot imagine a better gift to the British than to make the English language the official language of the European Union.

As Angela Merkel says it is time for more Europe. Not less. I think that the UK has a unique opportunity to be stronger in the world. A solitary UK in the world of giants like China won’t be much. A UK inside a strong Europe with a strong currency can have a lot of influence.

Currently the English language is already an important language worldwide. But let’s not forget that English is important because of the US mostly.

If the English was the official language of Europe then it would be the British English the official one.

Anyway, Mr Cameron seems to have now other worries. It is quite sad that the current government of the UK cannot see how much the UK could win if just saw other European countries as partners and not as enemies.

TO BE AND NOT TO BE

DAVOS/SWITZERLAND, 29JAN10 - David Cameron, Le...

WHAT A WEEK ...

I do not know if David Cameron has had a good sleep this evening but I hope that some mercy is given to him by the politicians of his own party.
Yesterday I cannot imagine he had a very pleasant day in Brussels (Sarkozy and Cameron had a clash).
Today it is a hard day for Cameron. The eurosceptics want a referendum so that people can choose between the EU, remain as it is or remain with different conditions.
So while Europe tries to solve a crisis that can put the world economy upsidedown David Cameron will be distracted by the eurosceptic part of his party.

I think that the problem of Cameron and the current situation of the UK could be summarized as TO BE AND NOT BE.

Wanting to be and wanting not to be: WANTING TO BE IN EURO SUMMITS AND AT THE SAME TIME WANTING WANTING NOT TO BE IN THE EURO. Is this not a contradiction?

It is as if you want not to be in a game but you want to be there to be how the game goes.

If someone from China and the US look now to Europe they may feel astonished: on the one hand there is a part trying to solve a big problem (the eurocrisis) and on the other hand there is a country just discussing about a referendum to leave the EU. I never thought that there would be people in the UK that so much dislike the EU that they prefer to attack the EU at the worst time even if by doing that at the wrong time they even attack a possible recuperation of the British economy, the European economy and the global economy!

Maybe I am wrong but if I was a UK eurosceptic I would try to show that I am sceptic about EU because it is the EU the one who harms the UK. Not myself with my timings …

IF ANY COUNTRY IS WORRIED OF THE EUROZONE BECOMING TOO POWERFUL IN THE EU THERE IS A SOLUTION: TO JOIN THE EUROZONE!

Eurozone

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

It seems that some countries are worried that the Eurozone will become each day stronger inside the EU as now it is obvious that the eurozone needs more integration, etc. It seems that some countries fear to be sidelined.

Well, there is an easy way to solve this dilemma and the the same time to solve immediately the worry of a eurocrisis bringing recession to the world.

The solution is just to join the euro! In this way, once you are inside the eurozone you have a say and you cannot be side lined! On the other hand once you say you enter the euro the eurocrisis disappears because it is obvious that the entry of a country now to the euro would be a high boost to this currency.

I am thinking about Scotland, England and Wales and Norther Ireland.

SARKOZY CLASHES WITH CAMERON AND VINDICATES SPAIN!

This super summit in Brussels of EU leaders has been very interesting. Monsieur Sarkozy has been news in Spain and the UK but for very different reasons. Let me explain the two news:

SARKOZY CLASHES WITH CAMERON

Now is news in the UK press (not in Le Monde …) a clash between Sarkozy and Cameron. As I imagine people in the UK know about the clash: Sarkozy to Cameron: Shut up about the euro. You say you hate the euro and now you want to meddle in the meeting. Well, something like that.

Well, I think that Sarkozy has been wrong although who knows maybe for good (or for bad). Let me explain! For weeks and weeks I have said that it is very important for me that the UK help the euro! I have tried to convinced people from the UK that even if they do not have the euro as a currency I find that the UK can have a very important rule. I also have said that the rule must be a helpful one. Unfortunately Sarkozy, by criticising Cameron is giving resons to the eurosceptics.

It is obvious that the role of the UK in the eurocrisis is quite strange. If the UK does not do anything then you can criticise the UK for not trying to help to solve the eurocrisis. On the other hand if the UK tries to do something then you can criticise too the UK for trying to meddle in the eurozone. So Sarkozy has been quite wrong to clash with Cameron because now the eurosceptics have another argument to say that the UK is been sidelined!

When I think about the UK I always see two sides. One side that is happy with Europe and another that dislikes Europe. It may happen that even in each person from the UK there is a little bit of both feelings. Then Sarkozy should have tried to welcome the eurofriendly part of Cameron! By telling Cameron to shut up about the euro Sarkozy is clashing with the only real and important friend of the euro outside the euro: The United Kingdom. Even the eurosceptics of the UK are quite good for Europe because if you read carefully what they say sometimes they are quite right.

I see the situation of the UK versus the eurozone like this: We are in a lab called EU and 17 students have decided to make a new experiment called EURO. Then in the same lab there is a very respected student, called UK who says that he won’t join this crazy experiment at all. Then there is a time that the experiment goes a bit wrong and there is the danger that all the lab explodes. Then as the 17 students try to control the experiment then the student UK approaches the 17 and tells them: “My God! Do something! Do something! This experiment EURO is going to explode and we all are going to get hurt! Then one of the 17 students called SARKOZY (like president Sarkozy …) tells the UK student: “Shut Up, UK, you were always criticising this experiment and now you want to meddle on it!” Well, as you can see from this example, the student SARKOZY is unfair because the UK student could answer: “It is true that since the start I have criticised your experiment called EURO. I understand that now that the experiment could go wrong you are not happy that I approach you and shout and shout: “Do something! Do something!” But I have all the right to do that because I am a member of this lab, the EU, and if this experiment explodes I will be hurt too!”

Anyway, I imagine I have made clear that I feel that Cameron is been right in trying to defend the UK interests. On the other hand Sarkozy is wrong in talking like this to the UK because the UK is one of the most precious and prestigious members of the EU. Only a fool would treat the UK as a nuisance. Industrial Revolution, Newton, The Beatles, the English Language and Alò, Alò. Is not that enough to try to have the UK as one of your best friends.

SARKOZY PRAISES SPAIN

While Sarkozy is news at the other side of the Channel by its very miscalculated words towards the gentle and nice man call Mr. Cameron Sarkozy has been aslo news soth of the Pyrenees because he has praised the Zapatero government for his reduction of debt. He has praised too the opposition party for its responsible behaviour.

Well, you may thing that as I am writing from Barcelona, (so south of the Pyrenees) I should be happy with Sarkozy as the newspapers and politicians in Spain are. Well, so so.

Some hours ago Angela Merkel spoke too about Spain and she said that Spain should do more. Those words were answered by Spanish prime minister by saying that we are already cutting debt and doing things in the right way.
I think that for Spain the words of Merkel are better words than those of Sarkozy because if Europe relaxes on us then maybe we also relax and don’t get so austere! Besides we all know that Germany is the one to pay the bill so I find that Sarkozy has acted in a showing off way: Germany pays the bill and is the bad one who asks for more to Spain and he, who does not pay so much, wants to be the good guy.

Well, I do not know. I do not know if Sarkozy is acting right or not. In some way I think he has been wrong with the UK and Spain. To hard with the UK and too soft with Spain. Anyway if it had been the other way round I could also criticise him. After all he has shown strength with one of the strongest countries of the EU, the UK and has shown nice words for a country in nned of nice words, Spain. I do not know. Who knows, maybe Sarkozy is trying to be fair: Telling to the world that Spain is already in the right track (and not like the “evil” Angela may think by saying that Spain should do more) and telling Cameron what he really feels about the way the UK relates to the UK. Maybe he is just a man that likes to say what he thinks. Who knows, maybe his words to Mr Cameron in the long run are a show of friendliness towards the UK because sometimes only friends tell each other what they feel.

Who knows, maybe the SHUT UP of Sarkozy to Cameron was in fact a “HELP US!” Maybe Sarkozy in fact is not unhaapy about the UK having a say about the EURO! Maybe Sarkozy is telling the UK: “We are now in a very bad situation! Help us to save the euro or leave us alone! We need you and we would be happy you to help us but if you only come to worsen the situation then SHUT UP!” I do not know! Maybe Sarkozy high words make someone in the UK realise that Europe needs now the UK more than ever! Even if our proud only let us say SHUT UP instead …

Maybe people in the UK should not see the SHUT UP of Sarkozy as disrespect to Mr Cameron was as a sign of the importance than in reality the UK has for France and the EU! If Sarkozy has got angry with the UK prime minister is in fact becuase the UK matters! The fact that in a summit related to the euro the big news is a clash between France and UK prime ministers is a clear sign that the UK has still a key role in Europe. Sarkozy would have never said SHUT UP to the prime minister of a small country in Europe. I think that Mr Cameron should understand the SHUT UP as “Come on, David, be our friend and help us really to solve the eurocrisis or leave us solve it alone”. Now the ball is in Cameron’s roof …

UK REFERENDUM TALK ABOUT QUITTING EU COULD WORSEN EUROCRISIS

Topographical map of the United Kingdom, Penni...

UNITED KINGDOM

I feel dismayed.

The UK is in a very bad situation with big austerity measures. The eurozne is too in a very bad situation with cuts and fears from Greece and beyond. The whole world is watching the eurozone to see what happens.

And now, amid this terrible moment of European history comes the talk of a referendum in the UK about quitting the European Union. It is obvious that I am not against a referendum anywhere because it is a sign of democracy but let me say that the timing could not be worse.

I think there is the thread we get two Europes. That is very dangerous and could be the door to new wars in the future.

I feel much closer to the views of Angela Merkel. Her idea of taxing financial transactions seems to me to be a very good argument. The idea too that the countries inside the eurozone act in a more responsible way seems to me very logical. Nobody is talking about Spain, Italy or Greece speaking German! We are just talking about doing the things in a right way. And I know, for personal experience, that the Germans are good at that, so I feel quite happy that the eurozone becomes “more German” in the sense of more efficient.

The only solution I see for the eurocrisis is for the eurozne to remain calm and together. It is going to be hard and the winds from the Finantial Times and the American rating agencies will blow harder and harder. But if we resist then we will leave the storm in a stronger position.

It is intriguing the way different countries act to a financial uncertainty: Germany acts by looking partners in the eurozone for a solution. On the other hand the UK seems to act by just walking alone.

Some say in the UK that the euro has been a flaw since the start. Well, in that case, the UK should be in a very good position right now because it was one of the few big countries of Europe to opt out. But as far as I know Germany is in a better shape than the UK so that the euro is not such a bad idea.

When you see all this of the eurocrisis it may seem quite traumatic but at the same time this eurocrisis is such a source of thought. All these last weeks I have been thinking about individuality versus cooperation. Decades ago we always hear about a country in war with another and so on. Now we hear about countries helping each other. It is true that we are in the eurozone inside a drama. But just because we are in a drama we also can give the best of us! These days Sarkozy and Merkel have done the things better or worse but they have talked about cooperation between countries. They have agreed, they have disagreed. With all the mistakes that they have done it is clear that something will be learnt from all this.

Meanwhile, Mr Cameron has remained as an isolated figure just crossing its finger that the eurocrisis does not end in eurodrama.

I already said some time ago that now it would be a perfect time for the UK to enter the euro. It would be a wonderful time because by doing that the UK would gain the inconditional love of milions of people from the eurozone. Secondly the UK by doing that could have a more important role worldwide. At the same time it could impose severe conditions for doing that. Anyway, if people in the UK do not want to join there is nothing to do. But I am sure that the more united the countries of this part of the world the beter for all of us.

So, I just hope that the UK does not leave the EU. A lot of people from the EU live in London and a lot of British citizens live across Europe. I wonder what may happen to all these people. Who knows, in the future we have a UK that is outside the EU and then afterwards we just have England, Wales, Scotland each on its own. Nothing to say.
