This Sunday there was in Barcelona a very unusual demonstration. It was made through the social networks and it asked for REAL DEMOCRACY (DEMOCRACIA REAL) These last nights in Plaça Catalunya, the center of Barcelona, some people sleep at night as a way of protest.
In Madrid there are also protests in PUERTA DEL SOL. The police put protestors violently out of the square but this evening the square is again full of portestors.
I do not know if this is the start of something new but as it is possible that it is I just want to put it into words in this post just written on May 17th 2011. All would have began on May 15, this last Sunday.
As we know in the Arab countries the people protest in the streets because they want more democracy and less corruption. Since the Arab protests I always had the feeling that something could happen in Europe too but I could not guess what because here we have already democracies in place.
But this new movement seems interesting because it wants “real democracy”. This is a way to say that the democracy we have now it is not enough and should be improved! And this message can find echo in any current democracy, in Europe, America or whereever!
In Spain we have 40% of youth jobless so it is a perfect land for the young going to the streets.
Thanks to Internet things change and change and quite fast. Maybe all that I am talking now will be forgotten in some days or maybe not. I do not know. I only know that I want to tell everybody that since the first moment I was aware that we could be at the beginning of something new. Another thing is if I am right or wrong.
All this is happening at the same time that traditional parties are in the campaign for votes for the local elections of May 22th! This had never had happen again! In one side we have the traditional parties doing what they do always and on the other hand we have protestors protesting. This is very weird! It is as if the traditional parties were out of touch with the fast events coming through twitter and Facebook!
