In these last hours I have written various posts explaining how angry I was with the announcement of a referendum in Greece by Papandreou. The damaging effect over the euro of this referendum was the cause of me being quite angry.
Nonetheless, now that I am more relaxed I have seen that this referendum is not all bad. The sad thing is that while I am writing now about the advantages of the referendum the situation of the euro, my currency too, is worsening!
Well, first of all, let’s see why this referendum is so unwelcome?
Well, it is unwelcome because we know that the financial markets are in a hurry and they don’t like the problems to be solved slowly. So the first good thing of asking for a referendum is the following lesson:
LESSON ONE: THE CURRENT FINANCIAL WORLD ORDER SPEED IS IN CONTRADICTION WITH A MORE DEMOCRATIC WORLD!
I think this lesson can be quite important! Maybe it is not wrong for Papapndreou to ask for a referendum! The problem is that the current financial system is in contradiction with current democracy! There is a problem of speeds! So the second lesson:
LESSON TWO: THE CURRENT FINANCIAL WORLD SPEED AND THE CURRENT DEMOCRATIC SPEED ARE TOO DIFFERENT!
So in fact the problem is not just the referendum! The problem is too that the financial markets run in high speed while democracy is too low! So lesson three:
LESSON THREE: IN ORDER FORA WORLD WHERE ECONOMY AND DEMOCRACY GO HAND BY HAND DEMOCRACY SHOULD INCREASE ITS SPEED! REFERENDUMS SHOULD TAKE PLACE THROUGH INTERNET AND IN LESS THAN A WEEK WHEN ASKED!
Another good thing for Papandreou’s referendum is that makes the citizens responsible! It is obvious that the bailout conditions are not good. But it is obvious that leaving the euro can still be worse for Greece! So it is good for Papandreou telling its people: Stop protesting and protesting against me! I am doing the right thing. And now you have the possibility to choose! It is time that you Greek become responsible people! It is childish to proest and protest against the measures that although they are not good they are better that a Greece outside the euro! So lesson four:
LESSON FOUR: STOP PUTTING THE BLAME ON THE POLITICIANS AND BECOME RESPONSIBLE! THE CONDITIONS OF THE BAILOUT ARE HARSH BUT WE NEED THEM! IT IS TIME THE GREEK POPULATION BECOMES RESPONSIBLE. AND IF YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND VOTE NO TO THE BAILOUT AT LEAST YOU SHOULD BLAME YOURSELF FOR YOUR DECISION!
So maybe the referendum is not so bad because it teaches us that democracy should be speed up so that it can act quickly as the financial markets and it makes the citizens responsible. All these protests in Greece against the bailout now no have seense because the Greek will be the ones to choose! If Greece falls the Greek will be the one to blame! So Pappandreou is making the Greek more responsible. Instead of protesting and protesting he is making them THINK!
